An Autumn Dining Room & Mr. Cozy Bakes

It's another drizzly morning here in Louisville, but I'm thankful to have a cozy home to be in.  As I munch on my toast spread with some local apple butter, I thought I would share with you some photos of our dining room!

I like to decorate with garlands of fall leaves for Autumn!  I'm going to add more pumpkins, too.  I like the cute little ones, and I can see some being on the mantle between the lanterns.  I took these pictures a few nights ago when my husband was on vacation, and we were enjoying ourselves to late nights and late mornings together!  I love vacation with no schedules!

The color we painted in the dining room is so warm, and we both agree it feels historic

(In fact, there is a room painted similar to this color in Downton Abbey.  I believe it's in Lord Grantham's dressing room.)

It's a very deep warm color, but I'm not sure it look exactly right from these pictures.  I guess it's hard for a camera to capture what the eye does! The color is Dapper Tan by Sherwin Williams.  It makes whatever color you put in front of it, POP!  The mouldings look even more dramatic.

I thought the glow of the lit lanterns on the mantle were too beautiful to not photograph!  What is it about firelight that draws us in, and makes everything seem a bit magical?!

It's difficult to see from this picture, but I love this brown lamp shade with harvest-colored paisley print that I found a few months ago.  (This picture doesn't show it well, unfortunately.)  I got it from one of my favorite shops called The Tin Roof in Princeton, Ky.

This autumnal flower arrangement is one of my favorite things, and Mom gave this to me last year!  It really adds to the corner of the dining room.  It came from The Red Bug in Murray, Ky. which is another delightful shop.  She sells an assortment of specialty honey, chocolates, handmade soaps, local pottery, antiques and a breath taking array of yarns from around the world!  It's charming and just off the court square, if you're ever visiting!

We've had the little cart for years--since we've been married--and found it on clearance at Pier.  Still love it!

Here's a view from the staircase.  I wish I had curtains on the dining room windows, but you know what... I already love this room so much it doesn't bother me!  They may or may not eventually come. :)

This antique mahogany hunt board, that was a gift from my grandparents, is filled with family photos in an assortment of my favorite frames.  I think family pictures really make a house a home!  Family and friends mean the world!

The Lord is so good!
Even though this is supposed to be just for Thanksgiving, I keep it out year round.

Oh! A couple mornings later I took a few more pictures after we bought a chandelier for the room!!  There wasn't one before, and now it looks more like a dining room!  It has an antique bronze finish.  I like the simplicity of it, but I can add little shades if I want.  Mr. Cozy did a fantastic job at hanging this!  The wiring in this old house is so difficult to work with.

Thank you, Sweetheart!!! I love it!

In the windows, I decided to add a bit of rustic decor with little grapevine wreaths I got at The Dollar Tree (!) hanging with burlap ribbon I found at Hobby Lobby!  I'm so pleased with the way they turned out....easy peasy.

I have to brag on my husband again.  He made this baked apple pancake over the weekend!  Isn't she a beauty?  He has a knack for making things delicious and surprising me with them. :)

The powdered sugar looks like snow covering the pancake.  It was scrumptious!
It's a version of the Lovely Baked Apple Pancake, but this time he cut time in half by using pancake mix!  I wish I had a piece now!

I'm going to leave you with a couple before and afters of the dining room.  Apart from decorating, we painted the room, touched up the baseboards, windows, and fireplace mantle and had the hard wood floors buffed and coated semi-gloss.  I still like the look of some imperfections in the wood.  Remember the colors in these pictures look a little different that what they truly are because of the lighting and my camera.  The room started off as a good space, but now I have made it into my own!!  Cozy and inviting the way I like my house to be.  :)  We've brought life back into this old house.

Have a blessed day and Happy October!
